HARDY, ERIC

Killed in a flying accident 31 May 1945.  At 1420 hours, Hotspur HH 354 was cast off from Miles Master DM 448.  The Glider turned towards the airfield and the port wing struck a tree:  the glider turned over on its back and crashed.  (Originally reported as 25 May 1945).
Son of William Godfrey Hardy and Nellie Hardy of The Beeches, Worksop Road, Swallownest, Sheffield.    Husband of Connie Hardy.

HARE, CYRIL, M.M.
Regiment:  Green Howards (Alexandra, Princess of Wales’s Own Yorkshire Regiment).
Rank:  Private.
Husband of Mrs. Elizabeth Hare of 2 Seymore Road, Aston, Sheffield.
Private Hare was badly wounded in 1942 during the Battle of El Alamein after stepping on a mine after taking German prisoners.   He insisted on other wounded being attended to first
and he was awarded the Military Medal presented by King George VI, for bravery in this action.   Died of his wounds on 3rd July 1954.
Not named on a local war memorial.
